Black Boy Fly is one of my favorite tracks from Kendrick Lamar’s album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City. Because it’s such a lyric heavy album, I’m pretty sure it’ll grow on me over time as I get more chances to actively listen to it. Something like this demands full attention in order to fully grasp it, which is dope — not enough artists do that these days.

I love this song. Andre 3000 is a beast of an MC. I still pray that one day the stars will align and all will be right with the universe so he can finally drop a solo project. I know a lot of folks are all about Kendrick Lamar right now (who’s dope btw), but if Three Stacks released an album I think it would flip the rap game on its head.

Can you believe this came out nine years ago though?!

Throwback Thursday - Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor (2006)
Without a doubt, one of the greatest debut albums of all time. It was nominated for 4 Grammy’s, but only winning one for best urban/alternative performance for “Daydreamin” featuring Jill Scott. This record also includes my personal favorite Lupe song “Hurt Me Soul”, which just gets better with every listen. A very unique album as well, some might say. Discussing topics such as poverty, Islam, terrorism, racism and individuality. No hip-hop collection is complete without this record here. It was also just announced that Lupe will be releasing a sequel to this album entitled “Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1” on September 25, 2012. Better late than never, right? Now is a perfect time to familiarize yourself with this timeless record if you haven’t already.
